The Event!

July 28th was an important day for us final year Singapore Polytechnic students taking the Diploma in Media and Communication. Part of our final year project was to organize a campaign and then execute it. For our group, we have decided to promote healthy eating with one key message:

“Eating healthy is fun and interesting!”

We were collaborating with Rosyth School, who were kind enough to allow us to utilize their premises for our event, which was in conjunction with their Health Week. A win-win situation, I’ll say!

The event was a success! With the help of the HOD of Health, Mdm Parvathy, and the Vice-Principal, Mdm Quah, we were able to organize and get the students to sample the food as well as complete our feedback forms.

So recess came for the Primary 5 and 6 students, and many curious faces soon surrounded our booths. There were two types of sushi, carrot and cucumber, and a tropical chicken sandwich made for the students. Our food was personally prepared by a sushi master from Ichiban sushi, as well as SHATEC student volunteers.

With the friendly Ichiban sushi master teaching the students how to roll their own sushi, as well as explaining how nutritious carrot and cucumber sushi is, it’s no wonder the students kept coming back for more sushi, and even made friends with our sushi master!

The tropical chicken sandwich was also a hit with the students. With the pleasant SHATEC students that were in charge or the booth explaining the nutritious information of the chicken sandwich, eating healthy was brought to a whole new level. Some lucky students were even rewarded with their own customized chicken sandwich.

Recess ended as soon as it arrived, and everyone went back with a smile on their faces, as well as new knowledge about eating healthy and the realization that eating healthy can actually be fun and interesting. Not to mention delicious!

A big “thank you” to the very supportive teachers at Rosyth School, the students who came and helped us finish our food (we hope you liked it), our Ichiban Sushi master, the SHATEC student volunteers, not forgetting our lecturers who were there to guide and put us back on the right path whenever we strayed from an idea or thought. Without all your help, this event wouldn’t have gone as smoothly as it did.

Thank you all very much!
